Sunday 7th November 12:00 – 15:00
(Gardens and cafe are open from 10:00 – 16:00)
[button_4 size=”small” color=”lightgreen” align=”center” href=”https://fordhamabbey.co.uk/autumn-colour-chado” new_window=”Y”]To book in advance[/button_4]
Our Japanese garden is really starting to look wonderful in its autumn finery as the colours change on the acers or Japanese momiji maple trees. Sunday 7th November is the final day our gardens will be open to the public in 2021. (Thereafter they will only be accessible to annual garden members and Dojima Sake Members from Tuesday to Saturday.)
As an added enticement, we are joined from 12 noon to 3 pm by a special guest who will be serving Japanese tea and higashi confectionery. Peter Sōrin Cavaciuti is a professional artist and lecturer, who lives and works in Cambridge. He studied Chinese and Japanese painting under the leading artists in the field. Peter continues to research and study Japanese culture and aesthetics, especially Chado (The Way of Tea) and Zen. Peter will be in the Japanese garden serving tea and a piece of higashi confectionery specially made to accompany the tea ceremony.
We are also planning to serve delicious hot kamonegi udon noodles with duck and leeks on Sunday 7th November (also on Sunday31st October).
For the first time this season, we are opening the garden behind the Georgian house for the last 2 weeks. Your chance to get a rare glimpse of the gardens and restored old river bridge in their splendid autumn colours.

We are holding this sake soirée to celebrate August’s full Moon which was traditionally called the Sturgeon Moon because the giant sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain were most readily caught during this part of summer. Tsukimi (月見) as it is called, is the ancient Japanese tradition of moon viewing and has a long history going back some 1000 years.
We look forward to seeing you under the stars and the moon!
Note: Free parking is available at the brewery. Please bring a blanket or warm clothes in case it is a bit chilly.
